In the early 1960s, Joe Huffaker, who was responsible for BMC's competition sector, in Kjell Qvale's European car importer company in the United States, founded Huffaker Engineering, California, with the purpose to designing and building racing cars. With the name Huffaker-Genie, the first competiton car was the Genie MK4, with a tubular frame and a 1.1-liter BMC engine, which proved to be quite competitive. Later, with the Mk5, larger engines were installed and with the popularity growth of USRRC (United States Road Racing Championship), Huffaker designed and built the Mk8. The car with tubular frame, independent suspension on four wheels and fiberglass bodywork could accommodate several V8 engines including Ford, Oldsmobile, Buick and Pontiac. The Huffaker-Genie Mk8 could also be sold in kit versions, giving buyers the option to install engine and gear at their choice, and was immediately competitive. Later, the Mk8 was developed in Mk10, which, with a more robust frame and improved brakes and suspensions, proved very competitive by winning several competitions.

 Nei primi anni 60 Joe Huffaker che lavorava come responsabile del settore competizioni della BMC nella società di Kjell Qvale, importatore di vetture europee negli Stati Uniti, fondò la Huffaker Engineering, in California, con lo scopo di progettare e costruire auto da corsa. Con il nome Huffaker-Genie, la prima vettura da competizione fu la Genie MK4, con telaio tubolare e con un motore BMC da 1,1 litri, che risultò piuttosto competitiva. In seguito con la Mk5 furono installati motori più grandi e con la crescita di popolarità del campionato USRRC (United State Road Racing Championship), Huffaker progettò e costruì la Mk8. La vettura con telaio tubolare, sospensioni a ruote indipendenti e carrozzeria in vetroresina, poteva ospitare diversi motori V8 tra cui Ford, Oldsmobile, Buick e Pontiac. Le Huffaker-Genie Mk8 potevano essere vendute anche in versione kit, dando la possibilità agli acquirenti di installare motore e cambio a loro scelta, e fu da subito competitiva. In seguito, la Mk8 fu sviluppata in Mk10, che, con telaio più robusto e freni e sospensioni migliorate, risultò molto competitiva vincendo diverse competizioni.
