The McLaren-Trojan M8C, equipped with the Ford Cosworth DFV engine, was commissioned by Alain De Cadenet, owner of Ecurie Evergreen to compete in the International Makes Championship and in the Interserie Championship in 1970. The American Can-Am Series 1970, to which the M8C types were destined, would start only on June 14th and the M8C built for Alain De Cadenet turned out to be the first of the ten cars built, marked with the chassis number 70-01 and the only one equipped with the three-litre DFV instead of an American V8. The debut race took place on March 30, 1970 in the second round of the British National Sport Championship at Thruxton where Chris Craft was forced to retire due to engine problems. Two weeks later the car was entered at the BOAC 1000 km at Brands Hatch but also there, the car driven by Chris Craft and Trevor Taylor, did not end the race because of the engine. At the third round of the Interserie Championship at Croft, Chris Craft scored the pole position but had to retire after a spin resulting in a crash that damaged the bodywork. At the Vila Real 500 Km in Portugal, a non-championship race, Chris Craft still scored the pole position but still failed to finish the race. The Swedish Grand Prix, in Karlskoga, a non-championship race, held on August 9th 1970, was the only victory for McLaren M8C # 70-01, driven by Chris Craft. In 1971 the Ecurie Evergreen entered the car in a single race, the Buenos Aires 1000 Km with Chris Craft at the wheel alongside Trevor Taylor. The crew started from the fourteenth place and finished ninth. After the race DeCadenet sold the McLaren M8C 70-01 in Argentina where he ended his career in the national championships.
