Porsche 908-03 chassis #001 - 1970
![]() The Porsche 908 was born in 1970. Its tubular chassis was derived from that of the 909 "Bergspyser", designed for hill-climb and extremely lightweight. The engine was the eight-cylinder air cooled boxer of 908/01 and the overall weight of the car was 540 kg. The 908/03 was particularly effective on winding tracks, being very easy to handle due to its low weight. In 1970 the Porsche 908/03 scored the first and second place at the Targa Florio with Joseph Siffert and Brian Redman on the chassis 008 and Pedro Rodriguez and Leo Kinnunen on the 009 chassis. The 008 also won the 1000Km of Nurburgring in 1970 with Vic Elford and Kurt Ahrens and in 1971 with Vic Elford and Gerard Larrousse, contributing to the conquest of Porsche's two world titles (1970 and 1971). The car in the photos is the one with chassis 001 , used only for development tests and never in race, kept until the 90's by Porsche. It was later purchased by Miller Historic Motorcars, restored and painted with the Gulf Racing colours of the Targa Florio of 1971.
