The Brabham BT8A was a sports car built by Ron Tauranac's MRD (Motor Racing Development) between 1964 and 1966 in 12 specimens. The car, designed by Tauranac himself, was developed on the basis of the 1963 Brabham BT5, a fairly successful sport car. The BT8A had a tubular chassis more stiffer than that of the BT5 to accommodate more powerful engines, many components were the same as the Brabham BT11 Formula 1 and the body was made of fiberglass divided into four parts. The first assembled prototype was equipped with the BRM 2-liter V8 engine coupled to a 5-speed Hewland gearbox and was tested for the first time at Goodwood by Jack Brabham. The other cars built were equipped with the Coventry Climax 4-cylinder engine, 2, 2.5 or 2.7 liters, with a 4-speed Hewland gearbox. Between 1964 and 1965 the Brabham BT8A was the best sports car in the British national races where, among others, Roger Nathan and Denny Hulme achieved several successes. In particular, Denny Hulme won the Tourist Trophy in Oulton Park in 1965, preceding cars equipped with much more powerful engines.

Brabham Ralt Honda. The Ron Tauranac Story. Mike Lawrence, foreword by Sir. Jack Brabham. Brooklands Books Publishing

GB
Ron Tauranac is one of the most prolific racing car designers of all time, founder of MRD (Motor Racing Developments) and Ralt. The over 1000 cars designed, of which 600 Brabham and the countless victories achieved speak for him. In this biography written by Mike Lawrence, the character is highlighted, without discounts or softening, through a series of anecdotes that show how difficult it was to work with Tauranac, often unbearably demanding, but at the same time endowed with great integrity and honesty and able to understand the value of work and sacrifice.
The chapters document in detail his work regarding Brabham, Honda and Ralt without neglecting his experiences at Trojan, Theodore, Mirage and TWR Arrows, explaining his philosophy in the design of racing cars, mainly Formula 1, Formula 2, Formula 3. The book, written in English, is a bit 'tiring, the pages are filled densely and the typeface size is a bit' small. The photos are few and all in black and white but it is a "history book" that a fan should not miss.
