Towards the end of the first year of the 1970 European 2-Litre Sports Car Championship Derek Bennet, after the insistent requests of Brian Redman, modified the B16 Coupé creating a spyder version, modified and lightened, with an open aluminum bodywork, built in a single specimen and called Chevron B16 Spyder. The aim was to be able to compete with the very fast Lola T210 of almost 40 kg lighter than the B16 Coupe. The new rules of group 5, introduced in 1970 favored open-type cars and made the B16 obsolete. Not having enough money to carry out studies in the wind tunnel, Bennet relied on Redman's advice for the shape of the bodywork that became similar to that of the Porsche 908-3 that the British driver, paired with Joseph Siffert had led to victory in the Targa Florio in May of the same year.
The car made its debut at the Nürburgring 500 Km, on 6 September 1970 where Redman scored the pole position, took the lead and gaining a clear advantage until the 15th lap when he was forced to retire due to a fire. On 20 September Redman with the B16 Spyder won the last race of the Championship, the Trophée des Ardennes at Spa-Francorchamps after scoring pole position again and thanks to this victory, Chevron won the European Title for Makes, just one point ahead of Lola. Later the car was successfully used, always by Brian Redman to dominate the Springbok Cup Series in South Africa.

Following the success of the B16 Spyder, the Chevron B19 was put into production for 1971. It was a sports car derived directly from the B16 Spyder prototype but with a fiberglass body. The chassis was, like that of the B16, made of a square tubes structure reinforced by glued and riveted aluminum panels and with a separate front frame that was easily replaced in case of damage. On this frame, the front suspensions were anchored which, like the rear ones, they were essentially the same as the B16. In all, 35 B19-type cars were built that were extremely successful in sales thanks to the performance shown by Redman with the B16 Spyder. The available engines were different but almost all customers chose the 1.8-liter Ford Cosworth FVC, considered the most competitive and reliable, coupled with a five-speed Hewland FT200 transmission. John Bridges brought the B19 to its debut and class victory at Oulton Park in a national competition "Sports, GT and Clubmans" on March 20, 1971.

During the 1971 season the Chevron B19 scored three victories in the European 2-Litre Sports Car Championship by Niki Lauda who won the second round at Salzburgring, driving for the Red Rose Racing Team, Toine Hezemans who won the third round at Silverstone on a car managed by DART Racing and John Hine who won the “Dune Trophy” at Zandvoort, seventh round, also at the wheel of a Red Rose Racing Team’s car. However, three victories and numerous placings were not enough to beat the Lola that with the T212 model, won the European Championship with Helmut Marko. The important Springbok series in South Africa was also conquered by the Lola T212 that won the title with the Rhodesian driver John Love. Three of the six rounds of the South African Championship were won by Chevron B19: The 3 hours of Lourenço Marques with Jody Scheckter and Ed Swart, the 3 hours of Bulawayo with Mike Hailwood and Paddy Driver and the 3 hours of Goldfields Raceway with John Hine and Dave Charlton.
