The Tyrrell 010 chassis 010-3 was the third and final 010 built, and was the most successful of the bunch. It was first raced at Monaco in 1980 by Derek Daly, where he and teammate Jean Pierre Jarier famously came in contact at the start of the race. Daly was catapulted into the air after having hit Giacomelli and landed over his teammate Jarier and over Alain Prost's McLaren. The car was returned to the factory to repairs where the components were reassembled with a new tub. The car continued to compete through the 1980 season and into 1981 and it would go on to record two points finishes with Jarier in 1980 and three with Cheever in 1981. During this period (1980-1981), it did have to be rebuilt for the second time due to structural issues. The last race came at the 1981 Austrian Grand Prix where Michele Alboreto failed to finish.
Retained by Tyrrell, it was displayed for many years in the Donington Grand Prix Collection museum. In 1998, it was acquired, along with the rest of the historic Tyrrell collection, by Paul Stoddart. A few years later, the car was completely restored.
