The Lola T286 was built in 4 examples: HU07, HU08, HU09 and HU10. At the end of 1976 the cars were assembled but only the first three were completed and sold, between the end of 1976 and the beginning of 1977. The fourth car, the HU10, initially intended for Alain De Cadenet for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, wasn't completed. The sudden change in the FIA ​​rules, with the introduction of the "silhouettes" and the creation of two separate championships for Group 5 (the new "silhouettes") and Group 6 sports car, in addition to the official presence of Porsche and Alpine in the Group 6, in fact made the Lola T286 no longer suitable for a leading role. The chassis HU10 remained in stock and was only completed at the end of 1984, equipped with the 3 liter Ford Cosworth DFV, when it was sold to Team "The Otford Group" to participate in the English national series Thunder Sports in 1985 with Mike Wilds and James Wallis as drivers. The season did not start very well, in fact during the practices of the first race, the Gold Cup at Oulton Park, on 5 April 1985, Wilds, on the crest of the Deer Leap, just before the pits, due to the detachment of the rear bodywork, lost control of the car making a terrifying spin. Some parts of the bodywork were damaged, forcing the crew to desert the race. In the following races of the series, the car was quite competitive. In the second race Wilds and Wallis took fourth place and the car with Wallis and Rollinson finished fourth again at Oulton Park on September 1st, on the fifth round. At the last race in 1985, at the Shell Oils Grand Prix of Europe at Brands Hatch, the T286 equipped with the 3.3-liter Ford Cosworth DFL was driven to victory by Mike Wilds and James Wallis. In 1986 the T286 HU10, also powered by the 3-liter DFV or the 3.3-liter DFL, participated in the Thunder Sports series with James Wallis, James Weaver and Willy Hoy.

La Lola T286 fu costruita in 4 esemplari: HU07, HU08, HU09 e HU10. Alla fine del 1976 furono assemblate le vetture ma solo le prime tre furono completate vendute, tra la fine del 1976 e l’inizio del 1977. La quarta vettura, la HU10, inizialmente destinata ad Alain De Cadenet per la 24 ore di Le Mans non fu completata. L’improvviso cambio delle regole FIA, con l’introduzione delle “silhouette” e la creazione di due campionati separati per le Gruppo 5 (le nuove “silhouette”) e le sport Gruppo 6, oltre alla presenza ufficiale della Porsche e della Alpine nel Gruppo 6, di fatto rese la Lola T286 non più idonea ad un ruolo di primo piano. Il telaio HU10, rimase in magazzino e fu completato solo alla fine del 1984,  equipaggiato con il Ford Cosworth DFV da 3 litri, quando fu venduta alla squadra “The Otford Group” per partecipare alla serie nazionale inglese Thunder Sports nel 1985 con i piloti Mike Wilds e James Wallis. La stagione non iniziò benissimo, infatti durante le prove della prima gara, la Gold Cup a Oulton Park, il 5 aprile 1985, Wilds, sulla cresta della Deer Leap, poco prima dei box, a causa del distacco del cofano posteriore perse il controllo della vettura compiendo un terrificante testacoda. Alcune parti della carrozzeria rimaste danneggiate, costringendo l’equipaggio a disertare la gara. Nelle seguenti prove della serie la vettura risultò piuttosto competitiva. Alla seconda gara Wilds e Wallis ottennero il quarto posto e la vettura con Wallis e Rollinson arrivò ancora quarta a Oulton Park il 1 settembre, al quinto appuntamento. All’ultima gara del 1985, alla Shell Oils Grand Prix of Europe a Brands Hatch, la T286 equipaggiata con il Ford Cosworth DFL da 3.3 litri, fu portata alla vittoria da Mike Wilds e James Wallis. Nel 1986 la T286 HU10, sempre spinta dal DFV da 3 litri o dal DFL da 3.3 litri partecipò alla serie Thunder Sports con James Wallis, James Weaver e Willy Hoy.
